Homegrown Tomatoes

Homegrown Tomatoes by Guy Clark

Ain’t nothin’ in the world that I like better
Than bacon & lettuce & homegrown tomatoes
Up in the mornin’ out in the garden

Get you a ripe one don’t get a hard one
Plant `em in the spring eat `em in the summer
All winter with out `em’s a culinary bummer
I forget all about the sweatin’ & diggin’
Every time I go out & pick me a big one

Homegrown tomatoes homegrown tomatoes
What’d life be without homegrown tomatoes
Only two things that money can’t buy
That’s true love & homegrown tomatoes

You can go out to eat & that’s for sure
But it’s nothin’ a homegrown tomato won’t cure
Put `em in a salad, put `em in a stew
You can make your very own tomato juice
Eat `em with eggs, eat `em with gravy
Eat `em with beans, pinto or navy
Put `em on the site put `em in the middle
Put a homegrown tomato on a hotcake griddle

If I’s to change this life I lead
I’d be Johnny Tomato Seed
`Cause I know what this country needs
Homegrown tomatoes in every yard you see
When I die don’t bury me
In a box in a cemetery
Out in the garden would be much better
I could be pushin’ up homegrown tomatoes

My tomatoes are growing!!

Asher + Water

= Not a good thing!

Just a couple cute pictures of Asher :) I took him to the big water dam here at the Lake where we live the other day.

Asher is infamously known for being scared of water. But it was a scorching hot day, and I needed the cool breeze just as much if not more than Asher did. He actually seemed to enjoy himself, and I snapped a few pictures of him in the water.

Yep, only his feet. That counts! Asher has come so far :)

In Africa, Nathan would try and coax him into cool ponds during rainy season. Asher would have none of it and would flatten himself and dig his paws into the ground. He would whine and cry and make such a fuss that anyone walking by would think we were abusing him. We’ve tried putting him into the water with us but he immediately jumps out. I guess water just isn’t his thing. But I was a proud mom when he got his feet in :)

And on a side note, Nathan and I are celebrating our 3-year wedding anniversary tonight at this restaurant. I’m wearing a cute dress :) Pics to come! Have a good day…

Kabob Cookout
Jun 28th, 2010 by Ann

Nathan and I had a great Saturday evening spending time with our friends Sommer and Jason.  Sommer and I actually went to high school together but had lost touch over the years since graduation.  When Nathan and I recently moved back to the Asheville area, Sommer contacted me on Facebook.  We met up for lunch a few days later and have been hanging out ever since :)   It’s so fun to remember great memories from high school and catch up on where our lives our now.  She is actually 6 months pregnant with her first child, and I loved hearing all her recent updates including picking out furniture for the nursery.  Nathan and Jason get along well too, so needless to say Saturday night was lots of fun.

I was in charge of bringing the meat, and ended up making kabobs.  I purchased some chicken sausage…

and added some veggies from our CSA box.  Eggplant, zucchini, squash, red pepper, and onion.

Complete yumminess!

Jason did a great job grilling and they ended up tasting really good.  Only added a little olive oil :)   Simple goodness!

That was our first time grilling out this summer, and I’m looking forward to a few more times :)
