Whirlwind Weekend – Part 2
May 12th, 2010 by Ann

My sister’s graduation weekend continued on Sunday…Mother’s Day!  It was great to be able to spend time with not only my sister, but also my mom :)   I can’t remember the last time I saw her on Mother’s day.  Aren’t we adorable?!

We headed to church in the morning and then had brunch reservations at the famed Tabard Inn.  We had some time before our reservation, so walked around Dupont Circle.  There just happened to be a farmer’s market taking place…you know that brought a smile to my face!  I loved walking around and checking out all the goodies!

I refrained from buying much but did pick up some ramps.  Do you know what ramps are?  I just discovered them this year.  They are part of the onion family and are one of the first Spring vegetables.

There was a sign…

Saying they had the last ramps of the season.  Couldn’t pass that up!

However, they did stink up my car…It was a looong way home :)

After walking about for a while, we headed to brunch.  My gorgeous cousin, who you met Monday, met us as well.

We all had great meals, but one of the highlights were the homemade donuts.  According to my sister, when you to Tabard Inn, you have to get the donuts!  They were delish!

We had great food and great conversation, which was good, because after brunch…we had to move my sister out of her apartment on campus :(   YUCK!  I have never seen so much dust!!  I was tired and things went slowly, but we did it all.  My parents and I headed back to the hotel to crash…just in time to wake up for graduation!  Check back tomorrow :)

It arrived!

No…not the warm weather, though that did as well!  :)   My EnviTote!  Yay!

I am very pleased with it and much more impressed than I thought I would be.  Very sturdy!  The strap has a velcro attachment so you can adjust the length.

Also, the bottom of the bag has a piece of strong cardboard (?!) that will be great when food is in the bag, but removeable when I need to fold it up.

I picked up some local eggs on my way home today and they fit perfectly in my new bag!

BTW, the eggs are from a new friend of mine’s farm.  He came to our first community garden meeting to give us advice.  He lives in Waynesville with his wife and young son and is a full-time farmer.  I asked all about his farm and what he produced and while his veggies won’t be ready until the farmers market next month, he said he had eggs!

While I could pick them up directly from him, he also sells them at a local natural foods store, Zoolies

He said they sell them for $0.40 more than he does, so I decided to get them from the store to support them as well.  Can’t wait to cook with them!

I really wanted to get a recipe posted for you all…but it will have to wait until tomorrow.  I had a fun afternoon at the dog park with my two boys.  Here’s Nathan playing ball with Asher…

Off to wash dinner dishes :(   At least the sun is still out!  Come on Spring!

Library Trip
Mar 31st, 2010 by Ann

I had lunch with my grandmother in town yesterday and before heading home after eating, we decided to stop by the library.  I had yet to get my library card and decided it would be a good time.  Libraries are such an amazing thing.  The wealth of information and knowledge in them always amazes me!  It’s been quite awhile since I’ve been to the library and it’s easy to forget what a good selection they have.  I have been in several bookstores since returning from Togo, but since I’m not working many hours and a bit low on money, the library is a great option to read all of those books I’ve been skimming at Barnes and Noble ;-)   And guess what section I found?  COOKBOOKS!  I love cookbooks and have a very exstensive collection.  But since we are living at my grandmother’s house, most of our belongings are in storage, including my cookbooks.  I was so excited to find them at the library.  And they had tons of good ones.  Remember how I wanted the new book Clean Food?  Well, they had it!  I didn’t have time to glance through all of them, so grabbed the first four that caught my attention.  I can’t wait to sit down with them tonight after dinner.  And I know I’ll be back at the library soon to check out more.  So here’s what I got (made sure to get some “local food” ones!):
