Plant Buying Day!
Apr 30th, 2010 by Ann

The community garden is well on its way!  We met earlier in the week to buy our seedlings.  We found some great plants…everything from jalapenos to potatoes to eggplant to onions to cucumbers to okra.  Plus several people in the group have seedlings of their own they will contribute to the garden.  From what it sounds like, we’ll have LOTS of tomatoes :)   We’re planting this Sunday afternoon so I’ll be sure to post pictures early next.  And keep your fingers crossed that the frost stays away!

And two more things…Thanks Aunt Lori for my new cookbook :)   And finally I want to share my father-in-law’s dinner tonight…He wants a little blog love too :)

Gardening
Mar 20th, 2010 by Ann

I had a great meeting yesterday afternoon with Joseph and Becky, my new partners at community gardening.  I met Joseph and Becky at a young adult group at the church I’ve been attending.  They know about my blog, and Joseph approached me about using some of his land for a garden for the group.  I of course jumped on the opportunity!  Joseph will be the resident guru when it comes to gardening as he and his family have been doing it for years.  I am going to attempt to be the organizer of the practicalities of the project…who’s joining, how do we divide the labor, how do we divide the produce, etc.  I have my work cut out for me this weekend!  We are planning an information dinner at Joseph’s house next Thursday night, so hopefully we’ll get a better idea of who’s participating.  And I’ll get to see the land for the first time.  I’ll be sure to take pictures!

In order to get ready for my own gardening at the house, I bought some supplies at Lowe’s and Home Depot today.  Here’s what I got:

I hope to start my seedlings in the next few days, so I’ll document that process as well!  Looking forward to the experience.

And if you haven’t visited this blog, be sure to as she is doing a giveaway for a Grow Box.  I would love to win as it would perfect for my tomotoes on my small deck!

Have you ever participated or led a community garden?  Any advice for me?

Spring Weather
Mar 19th, 2010 by Ann

Is on its way!

My husband and I celebrated the warm weather yesterday by raking the yard.  He worked for over 5 hours!  And I helped for 2 ;-)   I bagged the leaves that he had already raked…A messy job that definitely required gloves!

Here’s the final bag collection for the front yard ONLY!  We have more to do today :(

15 Bags!

And here’s the clean yard!

We even took an extra minute to re-fill the bird feeder…

I am really anxious to get started on not just cleaning the yard but planting in it!  I am meeting this afternoon with a new friend who is going to organize a community garden with me.  We meet for coffee today to discuss details!  Stay tuned!
